Animal Research:
Rats
One of the most used mediums for studying autism has been rats. Dr. Richard Paylor, a neuroscientist at the Baylor College of Medicine, has utilized transgenic, or genetically modified, rats. These animals are a particularly good model for autism due to their social nature. Results from studies conducted on these rats could potentially speed treatments for autism in humans. (Matthew G)

Zebrafish
The zebrafish is becoming a popular organism to study brain function. The human gene and the fish genes are very similar to each other. Zebrafish are a strong potential model to study ASD symptoms. Zebrafish are revealing process related to human metal disorders in other words autism. (Emily R)
