Race
The prevalence of autism varies among various ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Among 8 year-olds, autism is more likely to be diagnosed in boys with parents with higher education and not in poverty (PLOS, 2010). Additionally, it is stated that in order from most to least likely to be diagnosed, ethnic groups would be listed as White, Black, Hispanic, and Asian (AAP, 2010). This suggests that black and Latino children are diagnosed later and don't have the quality of access to care that white children do. (Matthew G)
Question:
What is the role of race in diagnosis and treatment of Autism spectrum disorder?
Question:
What is the role of race in diagnosis and treatment of Autism spectrum disorder?
How income plays a role:
Income shows to play a role in the prevalence of autism due to many studies done. In the U.S. there is much diversity in income that higher income places have “more” autistic children, whereas lower income places, less children are being diagnosed. Prevalence varies widely by state”. States with more money, have more cases of autism, and lower income places contain less amounts of cases of ASD. There is higher ASD rates in the West Coast and Northeast than Southern and Great Plain states. Strangely enough, because of the less socioeconomic diversity, a study done in Denmark about the correlation between income and ASD showed there was no association .

How gender correlates to autism?
Gender in this condition is bias because more males are prone to this condition than females. Boys have a higher risk in developing autism. 1 out of 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism in the US Boys are more likely to have autism due to their cerebral cortex because of how thin their cerebral cortex. The cortex, is slightly thinner in males, was found to be thinner in all ASD adults and the difference in thickness was especially noticeable for females. However, if females develop this disorder they tend to have a male like cerebral cortex (sciencealert), since their cerebral cortex is thin. Emily R
